The Lovable Pandas in Japan

Japan does not have its own species of pandas but they do have gifts of pandas which has been customary between countries, specifically China. The latest news on the pandas found in a Japan’s Ueno Zoo is about what happened to them after the disastrous earthquake. According to the China Giant Panda Protection and Research Center, Bi Li and Xian Nu survived and were none for the worse.

These two pandas is part of a joint research project between China and Japan as part of an effort to save the species from extinction. They traveled to Japan early this year for a 10 year study program and when the earthquake occurred, the two pandas had to transfer back to China to a different zoo because their home in Ueno was severely damaged.

Pandas are known to live up to 25 years but because of hunting and loss of habitat the species has become endangered. This research program is just one of the efforts to save the giant pandas. The 2 5-year old pandas are expected to return to Japan as soon as possible.

Pandas are important to our eco system because without them eating bamboo which is their food source, there would be too much bamboo. This would cause a disruption and an upset in the balance. It may not be pronounced right away but eventually the effects will be too much to reverse.  Right now, an estimate 1,600 or less Giant Pandas exist in the wild. Much of this has to do with cutting down of bamboo, poaching, and natural calamities.

What Are The Most Endangered Animals in Japan?

Japan has been declared one of Asia’s biodiversity hot spot since 2005. Our activities – our endangered animals is a sincere effort to somehow stop the number of animals who are on the brink of extinction. Some of our activities –  our endangered animals means going around the world in search of new ways t promote awareness of the plight of these animals and how their extinction can create turmoil in the scope of our planet’s biodiversity. For example, Japan is a small country and yet they have animals listed on the Red List. This is list of animals that our children may never get a chance to see except in pictures – unless we do something now.

Among the mammals, Japan’s most endangered animals include the Tsushima and Iriomote cats. These are native cats of Japan. They can be found only in island of the same name as the cat. As for birds, Japan’s critically endangered bird species is the Japanese crested Ibis which is slowly turning from critically endangered into a popular endangered species. However, this process took quite a while before the species began to populate again and will soon be returning to their natural habitat in Japan.

The Kikuzato Brooksnake is one of the reptiles that can only be found in Japan. It is also critically on the brink of extinction and needs someone to take action to save them. Also in the same situation is the Hokuriku which is an endangered amphibian also found in Japan. Many insects indigenous to Japan are endangered species like the 3 stink bug. Fortunately, Japan is taking an active in finding solutions but wit
They also need to reduce their industrial chemical flow into international waters which is causing widespread contamination reaching as far away as British Columbia and the US. This is mainly because of the transient whales that take in the toxins and travel around the seas spreading the poison.
