Japan has been declared one of Asia’s biodiversity hot spot since 2005. Our activities – our endangered animals is a sincere effort to somehow stop the number of animals who are on the brink of extinction. Some of our activities –  our endangered animals means going around the world in search of new ways t promote awareness of the plight of these animals and how their extinction can create turmoil in the scope of our planet’s biodiversity. For example, Japan is a small country and yet they have animals listed on the Red List. This is list of animals that our children may never get a chance to see except in pictures – unless we do something now.

Among the mammals, Japan’s most endangered animals include the Tsushima and Iriomote cats. These are native cats of Japan. They can be found only in island of the same name as the cat. As for birds, Japan’s critically endangered bird species is the Japanese crested Ibis which is slowly turning from critically endangered into a popular endangered species. However, this process took quite a while before the species began to populate again and will soon be returning to their natural habitat in Japan.

The Kikuzato Brooksnake is one of the reptiles that can only be found in Japan. It is also critically on the brink of extinction and needs someone to take action to save them. Also in the same situation is the Hokuriku which is an endangered amphibian also found in Japan. Many insects indigenous to Japan are endangered species like the 3 stink bug. They also need to reduce their industrial chemical flow into international waters which is causing widespread contamination reaching as far away as British Columbia and the US. This is mainly because of the transient whales that take in the toxins and travel around the seas spreading the poison.
